Holiday

Vintage Lilly below was inspired by a couple of paintings I had been doing that were a play off the  earlier "Umbrellas" on the beach many many posts back, and some smaller pieces like this one I had painted for the Gallery......

Vintage Lilly

In the midst of it all, I try to do a painting here and there to send down to the Pawleys Island Gallery - one day this girl just showed up on my canvas! Her name - Vintage Lilly!

Sketch Collage!

Enjoyed so much working with the "Just getting started" group on Wednesdays - We focused on staying true to my motto  - Observe.Sketch. then Express in whatever other medium you chose! We spent good time drawing and then practicing the good art of color mixing! Choosing a limited palette to get things started can be so helpful! At the top I compiled a collection of small sketches, color cards and  little paintings from several of my sketchbooks to create this experience which became a part of one of our studio shows.

Cup and plum

Sometime last September, I ventured into the kitchen and caught this magnificent light flooding through my window - I went to work assembling what I could find to create a few images I might be able to access later for class. These images inspired many of the works we included in our Studio show, and many became centerpieces in the show we did collaboratively with The Bliss Gallery.

I spent a great deal of time that day - and wondered if I should be doing something else. Lesson here -
when the light is right - stop and heed that great gift! Much inspiration has been drawn from those few minutes.

The Floral Study - two times!

The Floral study - Strangely enough - the same florals - the two top paintings one week after the bottom painting - I removed some flowers that had wilted and rearranged others - different triad as well! the top painting is painted on a vellum paper - bottom Arches 300.

Year in Review!

You would not of known it - but it has been a very busy year! A year of classes, a move to a new studio space flooded with that wonderful northern light and many collaborative shows - great opportunity to share and learn together with so many talented artists! In the next posts I will attempt to get up to speed with the events that occurred in the past year so we will be teed up for the upcoming season at the studio.
